About The Role

Your role as a Psychologist is to provide psychology services for clients who have been referred to the organisation’s services.
  • From a primary health care framework, and under the organisational policy and legal requirements, provide a service to the referrers (e.g. GPs) through the provision of evidence-based focused psychological interventions to their referred patients
  • Using clinical skills to assist the refers (e.g. GPs) to foster an understanding of assessment, consultancy and support in developing management plans for patients
  • Develop a general practice focused mental health role and service within the set guidelines and by the organisation’s policies and procedures
  • Provide access to quality mental health services for patients of the referrers (e.g. GPs) in the areas of Seaford/Cranbourne/Glen Waverley/Berwick and surrounding areas

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Providing clinical services to patients referred to the organisation
  • Liaising with referrers (e.g. GPs) regarding patient progress and to facilitate the provision of coordinated clinical care and treatment for referred clients
  • Maintain case records, in the agreed format and within expected timeframes that document activities undertaken and ensure all documentation is comprehensive, factual and complies with relevant legislation, professional guidelines and organisational policies
  • Contribute to the preparation of recommendations, reports and proposals in line with relevant skills and experience and as necessary to meet the reporting or growth requirements of the service and the organisation’s
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of service policies and procedures as required and used by the organisation
  • Responsible for individual professional practice with limited supervision
  • Regular participation in external clinical supervision
  • Upholding the Mission, Core Values and Code of Conduct and seek ways in which to add value to the organisation
  • Adhere to all ethical, legal and Board -prescribed standards
  • Contribute to and support quality improvement processes within the organisation
  • Contribute effectively to a team environment to ensure the organisation is delivered professionally and in co-operation with other team members. This includes performing the role within the organisation’s framework of policies and procedures, and meeting employee responsibilities for occupational health and safety

Selection Criteria

  • Acceptable qualification in Psychology involving CBT or equivalent
  • At least two years of supervised clinical experience
  • Membership of an appropriate professional or industry body
  • Demonstrated understanding of the general practice and the concept of primary health care
  • Experience and skills in working in close liaison and in consultation with the refer (e.g. GP) in a clinical context
  • Demonstrated competence in working with mental health problems and disorders, including assessment and counselling of mental health patients and their significant others
  • Knowledge of mental health best practice about prevention, early identification treatment and rehabilitation
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work individually and in a multidisciplinary team
  • Basic computer skills with proficiency in using Microsoft Office software and Windows operational systems
  • Willingness to undertake appropriate supervisory and mentoring interaction under accepted professional practice
  • An understanding and ability to apply quality improvements and research findings to the practice setting
